Most children work with me for around five to six months, coming once a week
The playroom
Sessions take place in a dedicated playroom, where the materials have been chosen with care and with cultural sensitivity in mind. Children don’t need to bring anything, and they don’t need to know what they want to work on. The room is set up so they can find their own way in.
Therapy takes place either at my practice in Utrecht or at your child’s school.
The phases
Play therapy moves through five phases, with parents and caregivers closely involved throughout.
Intake. One parent consultation, free and without obligation. This is where we get to know each other and decide together whether this is the right fit.
Observation. Around five sessions. I spend this time getting to know your child, how they play, and where they could use support.
Treatment. Around 15 to 20 sessions, working one to one with your child.
Evaluation. A parent consultation every five sessions to talk through what I’m seeing and what’s changing at home and at school. Where it’s useful, this can include a consultation with your child’s teacher.
Closing. One or two sessions to bring the work to a close in a way that feels complete for your child.
Practical details
Sessions are 45 minutes and cost €90, which includes session documentation and four parent consultations. The first consultation is free. Parent consultations can take place in Dutch or English. For play therapy sessions, children do not need to be proficient in Dutch or English. In my experience, language proficiency does not hinder the therapeutic process, as children naturally find their own ways of communicating and expressing themselves.
The Blossom Space is affiliated with the Dutch Federation for Play Therapists (NVVS) and the Federatie Vaktherapeutische Beroepen (FVB). As a registered NVVS member, my sessions may be partially reimbursed through your supplementary insurance. What’s covered varies by insurer and package, so it’s worth checking your policy before you start.
